Our design

Quality, Functionality, & Aesthetics Combined in Traditional Craftsmanship

Day in and day out we work hard to provide our customers with butcher blocks, cutting boards, kitchen islands and more that are visually appealing, durable, functional and long lasting. The knowledge gained from over 135 years of design and manufacturing goes into every step of our entire process, which is evident in the premium quality and special beauty of every Boos® product.

Traditional Craftsmanship

Our master craftsmen know our wood inside and out. The techniques we use to create our products have been refined over 135 years. Modern production techniques have more of a supporting role – the core of our craftsmanship remains rooted in tradition. The same passion and pride that went into the very first butcher block in 1887 is ingrained in every butcher block, cutting board and other Boos Blocks® product.

Convincing Functionality

A good design includes not only form and aesthetics, but also well-thought-out functionality. Reversible double-sided usability, sloped juice groove, ergonomic handles, catch trays – every detail is always created with the requirements of professional chefs and cooking enthusiasts in mind and reflects the cross-generational commitment to our customers. We work hard to make everyday kitchen life more efficient and enjoyable.

Where Steel Meets Wood –Combination of Stainless-Steel and Natural Hardwood

With John Boos' expansion into stainless-steel manufacturing in the late 1990s, new opportunities arose to combine stainless-steel with natural hardwood to create new designs for our customers. The combination of stainless-steel and natural hardwood colors gives Boos® work tables and kitchen carts style and elegance that make them as distinctive as they are impressive.

Durable, quality stainless-steel provides the foundation for the premium, sustainable hardwood work surfaces that offer maximum versatility and lasting performance. John Boos & Co. remains the only company of its kind in the U.S. with both wood and stainless-steel production at a single location in Effingham, IL.

Natural Aesthetics

From the beginning, we've stayed true to the timeless natural beauty of North American hardwoods, which is the main part of our design philosophy. Whether Hard Maple, Black Walnut or American Cherry – each of our North American hardwoods stands out in its own unique way, e.g. through a noble and aesthetic coloration, particularly warm appeal, individual grain patterns or the perfect harmony with the surroundings.
