Blocks Built to Last -Boos® Chopping Block Collection
Some of the preparation of meat requires a lot of force. It is then chopped rather than cut. The Boos® chopping boards, virtually the little siblings of the classic Butcher Blocks, are perfectly equipped for this work and have long been popular with butchers. Unlike the Butcher Blocks, the chopping boards come without legs, so they are mobile without losing their quality.
Accordingly, they can also be integrated into kitchens that do not allow a free-standing butcher block. The Boos ® chopping boards are made of end-grain wood processed vertically to the cutting surface, which makes them particularly resilient and robust. This allows a knife, for example, to pass more easily between the individual fibers in the wood, instead of cutting through them, as would be the case with longitudinal wood.

Quality, Craftsmanship, and Tradition
Well over 100 years ago, John Boos & Co. first started making premium-quality end-grain butcher blocks to meet the need of the meat-cutting industry. They then evolved over time to modern counter top versions called chopping blocks. Each Boos® chopping block is made like the original end-grain butcher blocks from premium renewable and sustainably harvested North American hardwoods and manufactured in Effingham, IL, USA from start to finish by skilled craftsmen using time-honored techniques from over 135 years of manufacturing experience.
High Quality & Natural Material
We have witnessed a lot of changes and trends in materials over 135 years, but for us there has only been one true material for cutting and food prep surfaces, North American hardwood, especially Hard Maple. This has proven to be the ideal cutting and work surface for food preparation making it the standard material for NSF® certified hardwood work surfaces in professional kitchens in the USA. It has the ideal hardness and is gentle on knife edges. Plus, it is particularly hygienic and food-safe due to natural properties inhibiting bacterial growth. It is also neutral in taste and odor.
With over 135 years of know-how and experience in working with wood, we use only premium renewable and sustainable sources of Northern American Hard Maple, Black Walnut and Cherry hardwood in our factory.
Durable & Functional Design
To meet all requirements, the Boos® chopping boards are available in different variants. Whether square, rectangular or as a round chopping board, with or without recessed handles, or with stainless steel handles and ring, there is something for every kitchen. The extremely robust end-grain wood construction meets the highest professional and safety standards and the double-sided usability of the chopping boards increases their service life enormously.
Care Tips for Your Boos® Chopping Blocks
Like every Boos Blocks® cutting board, our end-grain chopping blocks are finished with the Boos Blocks® Cream Finish with beeswax. Optimal care of the hardwood includes regular treatment with Boos Blocks® Mystery Oil and/or Board Cream. In addition, you should only HAND wash these chopping blocks (NO DISHWASHER). With regular care and maintenance, your Boos® chopping block will remain a highlight in your kitchen for years to come, and can even last a lifetime.
